Tennessee for the holidays

Happy howlidays!!! We've been in Nashville for the holidays! We drove from California thru Texas and we are now driving back thru Oklahoma. Something about mon having to get home the fastest way because she has to get back to work!

We had a great time in Nashville visiting our Nashville cousins Bayou and Bracken and of course grandma and grandpa!! We miss the yard already!!

On December 16th....one of our fellow DWBers suffered a tremendous loss, The Houston Pittie Pack had a destructive house fire....only two of the pack made it out. Their fur mom tried and tried and tried until she couldn't breathe anymore and couldn't see anymore but she just couldn't save the rest of the pack.

On December 16th we lost 5 furbabies to a fire and Sandra and her family lost everything! She is devastated and traumatized as are the rest of the family!!!

A chip-in has been setup to help the fMily get back on their feet! If you can donate even just $1, it would be so appreciated. Please please please share the chip-in and during the holidy season please let's think of Sandra and her Houston Pittie Pack. Let's really show this family the true meaning of sharing and giving!

Ceilidh's visit to the Animal Emergency Referral Center

I've lost 2 cats in 2 months, so when Ceilidh punctured my asthma inhaler last nite after I got home from work, I about lost it! All I heard was an boom and she raced into my room and under the bed. I coaxed her out from under the bed and onto the bed and she appeared ok, so I went back to the living room. Thats when she came in and she was making noises breathing. I felt her chest and her heart rate was FAST! Felt like her heart was going to jump out of her chest!

I called the pet emergency, and was out the door with all of the dogs in tow around 9:45pm. She was taken into the back immediately and her vitals were taken. I authorized them to call Poison Control. After which they told me her heart rate was 220 and her blood pressure was high. They also wanted to check her Potassium and Phosphorus levels-poison control had told them to watch out for these levels to drop!

She ended up spending the nite at the pet emergency. I had a really hard time going to sleep. I called at 2am, 5 am and 8:30am and each call I was told she had been given a drug to drop her heart rate and that her heart rate was slowly coming down.

10:30am - HR 220
2:00am - HR between 190-200 and she was given a beta blocker
5:00am - HR between 190-200 higher dose of the beta blocker was given
9:00am - HR between 150-180, she was quietly resting and had eaten a 1/2 jar of chicken baby food

I picked her up at 10:30 and transferred her to my vet where she will spend the day being observed, her HR checked again. Her blood work was taken again at 9am and her Potassium and Phosphorus were back within the normal levels, YEAH!!!

I'm so glad she made it thru the nite!!! When I left, I had to sign a CPR code to allow the pet emergency to do whatever means possible to save her life in the case of cardiac arrest. That was the hardest thing to sign! I cried while signing it!

She's just a little over 1 year old and has a MAJOR oral fixation to things that are bad for her!!!! I'm just so glad she is on the mend!!!!

Race for the Rescues 5k

On Sunday morning we all ran the Race for the Rescues 5K at the Rose Bowl to benefit the Rescue Train and 9 other animal rescues! Mom and I have run this before, but it was the first race for my sister, Ceilidh and brother Jack Sparrow.

We raised about $250 and on Sunday we arrived at the Rose Bowl ready to run! There were lots and lots of people and doggies at this event! Ceilidh and Jack has never run a race especially with all the dogs and people. But they were great! Jack barked at many big dogs, but he stopped once we started running!

It was a warm day in Pasadena, so mom gave us lots of walk and water breaks! We have a wonderful mom- she lets us drink water out of her hand held water bottle. As a matter of fact we only drink out of mom's hand held! We are spoiled!

We had a lot of fun. We finished and then had to race Jack over to the costume contest! He was entered along with lots of other dogs! Mom will upload the picture of his costume, but he came in 2nd place! He got a medal and Ceilidh and I were very proud of him!!!

We had a fun Sunday. We were out in the hot sun all day so we were happy to get home and nap!

I'm still here...

Mom has been a major blog slacker! I need a need blog secretary! But mom has been busy and we had a few animal issues in the month of august.

We lost our cat, Kodak on August 20th. He was mom's first cat and was 15.5 years old. I loved Kodak as well and we all miss him!

We also rescued a doggie from the shelter for mom's parents. As soon as we got him home he was sick.... He spent time at the vet being nursed back to health then mom took care of him. He's now in Tennessee with my grandma an grandpa!

And now to the big news....our foster dog..... The little black terrier chihuahua mix mom named Jack Sparrow is no longer a foster. Mom bought him a Tennessee harness and he is now a member of the family. I now have a sissy, Ceilidh and a brother, Jack Sparrow.

That gets everyone up to date on what's been going on. Mom has promised me she won't be a slacker!! But she is working again on her tv show.....

I hope you guys didn't forget me!

Mom brought this little 6pm dog home yesterday! She says his name is Harvey and that we will e fostering him until he finds his furever home! He weighs 6lbs.... He's smaller than our cats! He growls and barks at our cats but because he's so small they don't know what to do with him! He's nice! We like him!!! He plays!

We just finished a run with mom. We got out later than normal because mom was watching something called The Tour de France. It was sunny, and we're not to happy about running in the sun and heat! Mom is really good- we get shade breaks and we both drink water out of mom's hand held water bottle- but we kept the run short today!

Beach or Park?

Since Mom has been off work, we've been trying to get our runs in when we wake up (after mom watches something called the Tour de France) and then when the sun starts to go down, because we don't really like playing when the sun is up and its hot, we've been going to the park or the beach!! Either place is great for me because I either get to play with my Jolly ball or Tennis Ball but Ceilidh seems to really like the beach! She races around like a crazy puppy! She chases me when I chase my ball and then does circles around me....must be the "terrorist" in her...

I kinda like he now....it's nice to have a little sister! I'm trying to teach her everything I know. Like how to run on the trails and how to listen to commands!

The other day, mom took us both to the V-E-T to get things that sting and hurt! I only had one prick but Ceilidh had three! And her third one must have hurt her because she cried and tried to bite her side! I ran to her and tried to comfort her! I am her big sister afterall!

Mom and my Dr would duly impressed that I came out from under my hiding spot to comfort my sister when she was crying!

I wonder where we will go today?? Beach or park??

We went on a walk this morning. Mom had wanted to run but it's still pretty hot....so it was walkie time this morning and tonight we'll run along the ocean!

We went to our favorite park! There are a lot of squirrels, ducks and geese at this park and Ceilidh and I had lots to watch! No chasing of squirrels though!

We did get to run around though! I chased my tennis ball and ceilidh chased me. We played for a brief moment-and I chased her and then we headed home!

It was a nice morning with mom!

Mom left us! She went to Naahville to play with another dog! Luckily my hu-man brudder is taking care of us! He feeds us and takes us for walkies! And before mom left, she set up a special lunchtime petsitter visit for us! So we get to giro the park and play! This was Ceilidh's first time being taken out by MY petsitter! She was ok! She didn't act up and actually sat for a picture!!

I think mom comes home tonight! She had better not smell like another dog!

Mom brought home a sister for me! What was she thinking???? I was perfectly happy being an only dog!!! Sheesh! Mom! But I guess it's ok, mom said something about saving her from being PTS...whatever that means. She said she got me at the shelter the same way-so we have a bond. Whatever....

It's taken me a few days to get used to not being the "one and only".....Mom tells me everyday that I'm her bestest girl and that she loves me. And I still have my side of the bed! So all is good. My little sister sure is cute though and she likes me and follows me around! I guess I can show her the ropes! Mom and I are trying to teach her to walk and run on The Buddy System. She's getting it! And she immediately took to drinking out of mom's handheld water bottle that she takes running....so it looks like she's a good fit!

Ceilidh likes to sleep on mom's bed as well. I have the right side of mom and she has the left! We cocoon her!!! It's fun! Mom cant move!

Ceilidh, is a Scottish name. Her name is pronounced "K-Lee".... when mom took her to the vet, they didnt even want to attempt her name....mom giggled!

The good thing, she doesnt like to play with my jolly ball! Whew! So that time is all my own!!!!

Mom and I think she is very happy having a comfy bed to sleep on and food and of course a new sister and kitties of her own! I guess it's better than a concrete cell!

I guess I'll keep her....

Today is my 7th barkday!!!! My petsitter bought me a barkday cake and pressies!!

When my mom got home from work at 2am this morning-I got a piece of my cake. I gobbled it all up!! It was yummy!

Being 7 now, I have to watch my figure-so mom may not let me finish my cake...but I sure do hope I get another slice!

My barkday is perfect now because I get my mom home for 2 days!!!

Now I have to go eat my breakfast and play with my new toys. I wish I had friends to share my cake
and toys with...anyone want to come over?

It has been called the monsoon marathon because of all the rain! But it didn't stop the runners from running and us cheering!!!

Mom has been super busy this week and hasn't blogged for me! I will have to get another blogger!

What we haven't missed is the horrible disaster in Japan! As all of you know, Japan suffered an immense 9.0 magnitude earthquake just over a week ago and a devastating Tsunami afterwards. Thousands are dead and missing and the area has been decimated!

My mom has donated to the Red Cross and to a few animal organizations in Japan..and we would like everyone to help if you can! Here are just a few of the organizations that have set up donation web pages to help the animals in Japan!

This is what mom does every Friday- she works a fraturday! It means moms weekend gets cut short and she sleeps later than normal on a Saturday.

i went to the vet yesterday

And they stole my blood!!! Mom said I was super! She says I have "panic attacks" on my chart... I don't know what that means but a long as mom is with me I'm fine! They stole my blood in the exam room with my mom there holding me!

There is nothing wrong with me. My vet is testing my blood to make sure I'm a perfect middle age cattle dog! But she said i have to lose 4-5 lbs! Silly Hollywood standards! So mom already cut back my Dr Harveys from 3 scoops to 2 scoops but I'll get more protein! I must be on the dog version of Dr Adkins!

Well everyday is a tennis ball day! Mom has been super busy! I get to hang put with her on the weekends but during the week she goes to something called "work".... She says it buys me food and tennis balls but I'd rather have mom here.

Mom says this weekend we will be going up to see grandpa and test moms new, old ,13' trailer that she got so that all of us can go to out of town places with her! I can't wait for the weekend!

I had a wonderful weekend with mom! She slept late on Saturday- she needed to sleep so I slept with her! Mom did take me to play with my jolly ball on Saturday nite! The park was filled with my pup friends- but I didn't care because I had my jolly ball!!!

Sunday I had a visitor! My grandpa came to see me!!!! I was so excited!!! I took him out to breakfast at one of our dog friendly restaurants!

After grandpa left, mom did taxes or something on her computer while I dreamt of squirrels and bunnies!! After mom finished, we went for a sunset trail run! I hunted for those bunnies but they were hiding from me!!! But I still had fun on the trails!

Mom leaves for work early tomorrow.... I wish she could stay with me- but she has to earn the greenbacks....

I'm on a road trip with my mom and grandpa. Mom runs the Carlsbad half marathon each year for a doggie charity, Labrador Rescuers, and each year I come down and am mom's cheering section on the course! I have all my tail wags and kisses ready to see mom at mile 6.5! I'll be the push she needs!!!

Mom got a new Flip Video as a Christmas gift from work, so she's been taking videos of ME!!! I hope you like my Jolly Ball prowess! It was nice to get out and play because it's been raining alot here in Southern California!! It hasn't stopped mom and I from running! But it seems mom is sick-so the best way to exercise a cattle dog when you cant exercise? JOLLY BALL!!!

Mom is on vacation! So what did she do? She took me running in the rain today. She said something about loving the rain but she never asked me! I'm not a big fan of water and getting wet! But I love spending time with my mom!!!

Another 3 Day weekend with mom!

Yep! I have mom for 3 days again this weekend! Her work day was cancelled yesterday so I got to hang with mom, went to work with her briefly and then this morning, I got a special Saturday morning treat-Jolly ball in the fog at the park!!!! I could get used to these 3 day weekends with my mom!!! Maybe I'll get to go to the park tomorrow as well!

I think tonight I get to go meet a new Labrador puppy, Logan! He's the new family member of mom's best friend! It should be fun!

What a great 3 day weekend with mom this has been! I got to go to the park to play with my jolly ball!!!!! My jolly ball hasn't seen alot of action lately so I'm glad I was able to take it out!

SHEEP HERDING!!!

I saw Sheep! I saw Sheep!!!! Mom took me sheep herding today! I was SO excited!

We went into the arena-Mom wasn't sure how I'd do since it had been a year since we had last gone! Can you believe Mom has been a Cattle Dog Slacker mom and hasn't take me sheep herding! Something about her job! blah blah blah!

But today I saw my sheep! I got up close and personal with my sheep! I remembered all my commands and was actually driving the sheep away from mom!!!!

Mom got the day off today!!! Yeah!!! A three day weekend with my mom! We just got back from a 3.75 mile run! And tomorrow I get to go sheep herding! It's going to be a good weekend!!!

The 2 Akita's were found today! They were turned into the Downey Shelter and have been reuinited with their human! But the 2 Corgi's are still missing. The police think the Corgi's might be in the Compton area. Can we put the Power of the Paw to work to find these two Corgi's? Let's bring these two dogs home!

Mom and I like herding dogs!!! We hate that these two are still missing!!

4 Stolen Dogs in Long Beach (Bellflower) California-Please spread the word!

Terrible news. Kristina Rickard's (Dream Hi Akitas) van was stolen while it was parked last night at the hotel in Long Beach, CA. They don't know when it was stolen, but it was gone this morning (11/30/10). It has Trace (Top 5 Akita) and a young female Akita, and two corgis in it. Please cross post this to every list you are on and get the news out. Anyone in the Southern California area, please notify your vets office and local animal control in case the dogs are found, turned loose or taken to a vet. http://www.akitasdreamhi.com shows a photos of Trace, I don't have info on other dogs.

If anyone knows how to get this on the local news, MSN, etc. it would be a great help. Tom Rickard is on his way to Long Beach right now, and Lori is at home manning the phones, and Nener (Kristina) and David have Tamera Houser driving to hotel right now, so they will have help and wheels. The police have already come to take a statement and hopefully they will be a great help.

2006 White Chevy Express Cargo Van, California license 8D20252, with a big black box on the back and three dog stickers on the back windows. If anyone was to see this van on the side of the road or parking lot, please report asap and check on the dogs. Hopefully, they will be found inside.

Santa Paws Drive for Shelter Animals

I have a cozy home with my mom, but there are so many dogs and cats out there that dont have a home and will spend the holiday alone and in a shelter. But we can help them! Santa Paws has started collecting toys, food, gift, cleaning supplies, gift cards and money to donate to shelter across the country! Can you help?

Mom and I will be getting toys and gift cards for the animals at our local shelter. You can to..you can even set up a box at your work to collect lots of stuff for the shelter animals.

I got muddy and wet today!

Mom and I went on a trail run in the rain!!!! I got wet and muddy! Mom and I had a really good time! We ran 5.61 miles. 5.61 miles of BUNNIES!!!!! The Bunnies were all out playing, it was Bunny Hour (just before the sun sets) and I got to chase alot of them. I didnt catch any though!

We ran to the beach. I saw to black labradors playing with their tennis ball in the water! Water? yuck!!!

I love going to the beach but I do not get into the water! I dig holes in the sand and if it's hot I'll put my paws in the water or lie down at the waters edge, but I do not go into the water!

I had a wonderful weekend with my mom! I wish she didnt have to work!

Lost Dog in San Clemente, California-please repost and Help!

APOLLO IS MISSING! PLEASE HELP US FIND HIM!

Apollo is a 2 year old Black Labrador Mix. He has a small patch of white on his chest and is around 55 lbs. He was wearing a black collar.
He was last seen on Saturday, Oct. 9th at approximately 2pm in the canyons around Talega Golf Course in San Clemente near La Plata and Hermosa. Apollo was recently rescued from the shelter where he was turned in by his owner.
He is up to date on shots. He is likely confused and scared out there on his own. We need your help! If you have seen or found Apollo, or are in the San Clemente area and are able to help us look for him, please contact us at 619-819-0234.

I ran 13 miles with Mom today....

Mom got me up early today-something about "beating the heat" on her long run! I've been pretty lucky-mom was sick and at home on Thursday, so I got Jolly ball playtime!! That was very exciting.

Mom spent all day with me yesterday-she screamed at her tv. Then we went on a short night run. Mom had her headlamp on and I saw lots of eyes....

This morning we got up early, doesnt she know that I was getting my beauty sleep!! But I got up-I cant have mom leaving the house without me!!

We ran down to the "foggy place"...lots of fog horns were going off near the big load ships! Mom loved it-the fog left me with wet ears and a wet head!

we ran and ran and then the fog started to disappear and that horrible sun started coming up. Mom and I dont like sun. We prefer cool dark! When Mom and I reached the 10 mile mark we found a lovely Black labrador girl. She was on the sidewalk, without humans. Mom and I continued but the Lab Lady followed. So we had to stop our run and mom took me off leash and put the Lab lady on my leash since she was racing around and running into the street. Mom was knocking on doors at 8:30am trying to find her owner. Her stupid owner didn't know or didnt care that she was out-Mom should have taken her home!

We continued our run...we stopped in the shade so I could drink water. I have a great talent, I can drink out of mom's handheld water bottle. She takes it just for me!!! I love my mom!

We finished our run! 13 miles!!! That is the farthest I have ever run with mom. I've run 10-11 miles but never a half marathon!!!

I'm sorry mom hasnt let me come by to visit everyone. Her stupid job occupies so much of "my time"...mom doesnt even turn her computer on during the week!

I hope all of my friends are great!!!

It's been super hot here! Mom and I ran 9 miles on Sunday before the heat arrived! Yesterday when we went to the park was the first time in 3 days that I'd been out to play! Mom and I don't like this heat!

I went running his morning with mom! 2 miles=no limping!! I was so excitedto get out and do something! Mom has had me on 4 days of lockdown! No exercise for a cattledog for 4 days? Craziness!!!

Now that I've been cleared to play and exercise, the park is my playground!!!

a surprise visit to the ......VET... gasp

I've been limping. Mom thought it might be my front shoulder. Some days I wouldn't limp and some days I would. Mom was very confused so on Wednesday, she made an appointment for me to go see my vet on Friday before mom went to work.

Well, when mom came home from work super late on Thursday night and took me out to pee, she noticed I didn't want to put any pressure on my left paw. So she looked at it-OUCH! One of my pads was swollen on the side! She looked to see if she could see anything poking out-but she couldn't. So she soaked my paw in hot salty water at 1am.

At 8am, we went to the vet. I don't like the vet! The vet has "gets panic attacks" written on my chart-how dare they say that about me!!! Mom tries to only take me if I really need to go-and Friday, I needed to go. The only way my vet could look at my paws was for mom to lie on top of me. It tends to calm me down and I cant move. But I tried! When she was touching my ouchie paw pad I was trying to move!!!

The vet scraped the surface of my pad but couldn't see anything-but she did see a hole. She told mom that she thought I might have some "plant part" in my pad and the only way she could check it out was to sedate me.....S-E-D-A-T-E..... that word sounds so scary!!!

I was taken away from mom into "the back." They stuck me with a needle, I yelped, and stuck something in me that made me sleepy and drugged up and then OUT! I don't remember anything after this until I woke up. It was wierd...I was wobbly and my tongue was hanging out of my mouth! But my mom was there!!

She told me that I had a little tiny stone taken out of my paw pad. My vet saved it to mom could have it. It's little and must have been sharp! but it's out now!!! I have drugs that I have to take every 24 hours. But if they make my paw feel better, I'll take them!!

Mom took me home-all i wanted to do was sleep! I growled at mom once-she was shocked because I NEVER have growled at her! But I wasnt myself!!

My grandpa came down just after mom left me to go to her stupid job! He spent about 3 hours with me as I became less groggy! It was super nice to hang with my grandpa!! I love him!!

Today was the first day my pet sitter came to take me to the park!! I was so excited!!! I don't like when mom is working but I do get to go to the park and play!

Runner's World

Back in June, Mom dragged me to some photo studio in Culver City! We went inside-I was super excited to be with mom!!! She and I sat for a bit then mom and I went into another room- some lady sprayed stuff on her head and put stuff on her face. Mom felt silly but I was there to support her!! After that, mom and I went into a room that had couches and all of a sudden a nice lady called our name. Mom and I walked out into a photo studio. I'm used to having my picture taken, but mom is not! So I'm glad I was there with her (I think she was nervous). There was a really nice photographer who snapped ALOT of pictures of mom and I-I actually got to play with my tennis ball a bit! Mom and I had pictures taken together and separate. I liked it when mom and I were together, and it seems the photo editors of Runner's World did as well, for Mom and I made the "cut" for the September issue of Runner's World.

They were doing a piece about running with your dog-yep, I run with my human, so I guess she runs with her dog! Alot of mom's friends told her that we needed to do this, so mom submitted our information and they picked us!!! Silly mom went out and bought 3 copies-she might buy more! She missed running a trail race in Northern California so she and I could do the photo shoot- so we both hope you like our picture and maybe go get a copy!
